”Visions for the future”

The mural in Minden focuses on connection, bridges over the Weser and the Mittelland canal. Social contexts are built on this ”connecting bridge”. The economy’s responsibility in solving questions about the future is represented by the railway track and the globe. The large sun emits rays of hope and confidence and is supposed to bring ecologically sensible energy to the countries of the South.

Wind energy with regard to the historical windmills of the Minden-Lübbecke district suggests the theme of regenerative energy forms in the countries of the North. The groups of people important to Agenda 21 appear on the pedestrian bridge: children, women, handicapped, and the elderly. The two women in the foreground symbolise on the one hand, the importance of women in society and on the other hand, a sustainable development for the future is only possible through conversations and discussions. There is a clock within the sun whose hands are snakes: symbol for the power of life. The snakes point at five minutes to twelve, or in the mirror at five minutes past twelve. You need to take a close look.
