« A person’s dignity is intangible » is the first sentence in the German Constitution and is written in large letters on the building of the police headquarters in Solingen.
The mural based on the theme ”Agreement between nations and living together in one world” would like to inform people about the country of Senegal and its culture but also portrays the gap which exists between North and South and which first needs to be overcome.

To enable this, respect for other views, other cultures and other people is needed, just as the respect for a person’s dignity is needed, which in our own country still has a long way to go.
A partnership was set up between Solingen and Thies in Senegal ten years ago. Alongside the city and partnership society, schools also take part in exchange programmes.

In September, Senegalese pupils were guests in Solingen for four weeks. A mural on the Geschwister Scholl School, which was jointly designed by the pupils of the school and the Senegalese artist, is a result of this exchange visit.
