Duisburg-Marxloh situated in the north of the city is a quarter with special necessity of renovation. You can find the wall at the Kaiser-Konrad-Straße at a crossing of a Fußgängerzone.
The economic connexions between Brazil, the biggest country of Latin America, and Duisburg are numerous: imports of iron ore, direct investigations but also interests of exportation (look at the project Porto Alegre) One aim of the mural project is to invite people to deal with the subjects of the Local Agenda 21 and with global aspects.
Luis Flavio de Lacerda Vitola (1972): He is a graphic artist working together with young people and the organization "Febem". Febem is engaged with criminal youngsters. He also works in a local administration project of cultural decentralization. Nestor Omar del Pina Salas (1954): He was born in Chile but he is a Brazilian. Living in Porto Alegre since 20 years. His background is more academically and he has experience with paintings. He was a master of the "Caxias do Sul University" and already realized some public murals.
Wolfgang Pilz (1957), born in Hamburg / Germany. He studied arts in Duisburg, Stuttgart and Düsseldorf. The teacher of Wolfgang Pilz (master class) was the artist Prof. A. R. Penck. He lives and workes in Duisburg and teaches lithography at the Gerhard-Mercator-University of Duisburg.
